The painting above is a layered work on canvas. It was created by placing coatings of paint on the surface of the canvas and carving the face once all layers were applied. Black was placed as the last layer. The artist used the chemical composition of each color to determine drying times. The red paint remained liquid underneath 3 layers of faster drying paint. This achieved the oozing out of red when a cut was made on the outer layers. Suzzette likes creating abstractions like this. For instance a thematic study of the First Ladies of the USA was created by the artist which is available for exhibits wordlwide. The last three first ladies are next in her work schedule. The works are portait abstractions of each lady driven by the news' headlines of the times and historical documents. This work was highly acclamined at the Jacksonville Florida Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum in 2005.see exhibit...
